Feeling the pull of the outdoors but unsure where to start? You’re not alone. Between the noise of daily life and the curated feeds of social media, a deeper connection to the natural world can seem out of reach.
Welcome to the Wild Roots Bushcraft Series, a progressive, five-part journey designed for adults (18+) who want to move beyond being passive viewers of nature to becoming active, confident participants in it. This isn’t just camping; it’s a hands-on education in the timeless art of thriving in the outdoors with skill, respect, and community.

Our Philosophy: The Four Pillars of a Tayrona Outdoor Experience

At Tayrona’s Green Pastures Camps (GPC), our approach to bushcraft is built on four foundational pillars, guiding every skill we teach and every moment we spend in the wild.
1. Stewardship – Our First and Most Important Commitment:
This is the cornerstone of everything we do. We believe that entering the wilderness is a privilege that comes with a profound responsibility. Before we learn to use nature, we learn to protect it. We teach and practice the principles of Leave No Trace as a core skill, from ethical foraging to campsite selection. It’s about sustainably living with nature, not just passing through it. We invite you to join us in this respectful appreciation, ensuring the Great Outdoors remains vibrant for generations to come.
2. Self-Reliance:
Moving from dependence to capability. Learning to confidently meet your own basic needs—shelter, water, and comfort—with your knowledge and hands. It’s about building inner confidence that empowers you, both in the forest and in daily life.
3. Connection to Nature:
Developing a true dialogue with the environment. It’s about moving beyond sightseeing to deep observation—reading the landscape, understanding seasonal signs, and feeling a part of the ecosystem. This connection is the heart of a meaningful outdoor experience.
4. Minimalism & Resourcefulness:
Shifting the focus from what you carry to what you know. It’s about intelligent simplicity, creatively using what the environment provides, and appreciating that the most powerful tool is a skilled mind. We teach you to do more with less, honoring the principle of stewardship.

The Skill Journey
Our curriculum is built around the four core pillars of our outdoor experience. You’ll progress through each, building competence season by season.
- Shelter Craft: From low-impact tarp setups to insulated natural shelters.
- Water Sourcing & Purification: Finding and making safe water with minimal environmental impact.
- Foraging & Wild Food: Identifying and ethically harvesting nature’s pantry following strict sustainability guidelines.
- Woodcraft & Carving: Safely using tools to create what you need from already fallen or sourced materials.
- Navigation & Terrain Reading: Finding your way with a map, compass, and natural signs to travel confidently and avoid unnecessary impact.
A Note on Firecraft: Following strict local regulations and our foundational pillar of Stewardship, we will not be teaching open-fire creation. Instead, we focus on mastering alternative methods for warmth and cooking, emphasizing low-impact practices and safety.
