Tayrona Beijing Cycling HIGHER

Cycling HIGHER

This is the fourth year that Green Pastures Camps (GPC) holds this cycling camp at Singing Deer! Let’s take it even ‘HIGHER’ this year by focusing on your endurance and strength for cycling uphill.

If you are 10 to 16 years old and enjoy cycling, come and join us from August 4th to August 8th . If you have joined us in previous years, we would love to see you again and challenge you to take your cycling skills to the next level. If you are new to our cycling camp prepare yourself to improve your basic cycling skills. One thing is for sure, you will meet more cycling enthusiasts, cycle better and have lots of fun!

Many people believe that cycling is a sport.
That is true, but it’s more than that. It is a way of life.
Cycling is freedom.

GPC designed this cycling camp for children and teenagers who enjoy the freedom of cycling and are not afraid to rediscover who they are and what they are capable of. It is also designed for young cyclists who want to enhance their performance and stamina.

Experience the safe and empowering multicultural environment of this Singing Deer – GPC camp!

At HIGHER Camp, our experienced international staff ensures a supportive atmosphere for both, domestic and foreign campers, in which English is used as the means of communication. Our Instructors, selected for their skills in fostering a safe learning environment, are dedicated to guiding campers through an enriching journey of self-discovery and growth. Participant campers find these life skills acquired during our camps, empowering to face the challenges of a multicultural world.

Additional to developing endurance and strength for cycling, HIGHER Cycling Camp provides opportunities to practice some basic bicycle maintenance skills, some fitness routines, some healthy habits, and to play team-building games.

Highlights

Immersive English Experience

This is an all-English language camp, which helps non-English speaking kids and teens to improve their communication skills by creating a language environment with real life conversations. Campers will have to communicate with the instructors, camp staff and counselors in English only! This can be an opportunity to learn to think in a different language, and to develop intercultural awareness.

Mountain Bike and Cycling Skills

Additionally, campers will practice Basic Mountain Bike cycling skills such as balancing body weight, cornering, and steep descending on a mountain road that is safe for kids. There will be opportunities to practice basic bike maintenance (checking air pressure, fixing a flat, changing wheels, etc.). For participants who have joined us before there will be reminders of previous learned skills, and additional skills to learn like adjusting brakes, oiling chains, and more. There will be daily rides that meet each individual’s cycling goals. Hence, cycling ability can be rapidly improved during the camp as campers enjoy the fun of riding.

Fitness and Endurance

A healthy body is essential to function properly in our daily lives. A YMCA study showed that people who were physically active had 32% better health than those who were inactive. It has been proven that physical active children/teens concentrate better in school and therefore learn better. Several studies have shown that active people are more productive in their studies or work.

A fit body helps the mind to develop in a healthy way. Cycling enhances body mobility, balance and coordination. It strengthens muscles and organs and improves overall physical fitness. Being active in a natural environment gives your child a mood boosts as well.

Friendships and Teamwork

This year again, in addition to individual cycling training, campers will ride and take part in team challenges. They will press toward a common goal and make use of collaboration, communication and leadership skills needed to develop competencies for the 21st century.

On the road, together with instructors and counselors, we help, support and encourage each other. This way we will practice one of principal values: good sportsmanship.

Cycling makes you smarter – Brain development and Mental Health

Researchers at the University of Illinois found that every 5 percent increase in cardiorespiratory fitness from cycling was associated with a 15 percent improvement in intelligence tests. This is because cycling can help the brain generate new brain cells in the memory area, thereby promoting the development and improvement of intelligence. Further it shows improved sleep, well rested people focus better, and are more mentally stable.

A necessary quality for cycling is persistence as we aim HIGHER: persistence through discipline and continuous training to push oneself and discover how much more one can achieve with determination. Learning to overcome difficulties and facing hardships will fully exercise all campers’ body and mind.

Develop Sportsmanship through cycling

Cycling does not only involve physical activity, but also, it involves the spiritual core values of a sport. What is sportsmanship? What does it mean?

The camp will promote the balanced development of physical ability and help to reach ’HIGHER’, as well as become a better team player. Let’s also start to apply these concepts to our daily lives.
